The 18 year old came on for a late cameo appearance in Wales' clash with Albania in the Nations League on Tuesday, and he is keen to also push on to greater heights domestically.
A forward by trade, the youngster has been in scintillating form for Manchester City U23's this season, but Matondo has set his sights on much bigger goals for the remainder of the campaign.
He spoke to the media after his international debut, telling 'BBC Wales': "I'm sure playing for my country and against top international players will help me at club level. The whole world is watching and if I can do it on the international stage, it will show I can do it at my club. It's always been the aim to break through at club and international level."
Matondo is still eligible to change his international allegiance to either England or Democratic Republic of Congo,as his Wales debut came in a noncompetitive fixture.
However, the Cardiff raised player has insisted that his future lies with Wales.

He added: "It has always been Wales for me. I'm happy here and happy with (Wales manager) Ryan Giggs of course. He's given me an opportunity and I'm grateful for that. This time last week I wasn't expecting to be here, but this is what I've been building up for all my life. As a youngster I was watching Gareth Bale and now I'm playing with him."
Matondo started his career with hometown club Cardiff City, before moving to the Etihad Stadium in 2016, where he has made consistent progress in recent years.
Yet with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in the current crop of City first team players, the youngster may have to wait a little longer for his chance with Pep Guardiola's team.
