At just 34, Vincent Kompany is now only thinking about managing. The Belgian recently hung up his boots and now manages an Anderlecht where he started out before making the leap to Manchester City where he became a legend.
Due to his spell at the Manchester side and his dazzling start as a manager, many try to compare him with his ex-manager, Pep Guardiola. A comparison that Kompany doesn't like at all.
"You have to stop comparing me to Guardiola because I didn't come here saying that Anderlecht were going to become Manchester City", Kompany expressed on 'Eleven Sports' when talking about the style of play of the Belgian outfit, who are 7th in the table.
The constant references to Pep because of Anderlecht's way of playing make the work difficult for a Vincent who wanted to make clear that at no moment has he intended nor intends to copy the style of play that Guardiola applies to his teams.
"It bothers me that we are getting too close to Pep because he is totally inaccessible. It makes us look like a naive club. It's Anderlecht's identity that interests us. What will I gain if I ask my players to defend, throw long balls and lock themselves in defence? Even if I win the title, it wouldn't be useful to me. I know a way of playing and some principles that correspond to what Anderlecht has been historically. It should not be forgotten", he ended.
