'You have to respect the coach's decisions' - Rodrygo addresses lack of playing time
Rodrygo Goes' situation at Real Madrid has changed significantly from last season to this one. The arrival of Xabi Alonso as the new manager has led to a considerable reduction in the Brazilian's playing time, at least so far in the 2025/26 campaign.
Although the Brazilian striker was a key player under Carlo Ancelotti, playing in up to 40 games as a starter last season, the Spanish coach does not consider him a regular starter. Of the eight official games the Brazilian international has played for the club this season, only two have been as a starter, in which he has recorded just one assist.
Rodrygo said in an interview with Spanish media outlet 'AS' that despite having taken on a less important role in the squad, he continues to enjoy every minute he plays for Real Madrid and will take advantage of every opportunity he is given.
"Being on the bench this season? You have to respect the coach's decisions. If I start, I'll play at 100%, and if I'm on the bench, same thing. If I play 20 minutes, I have to make the most of them. I try to enjoy it every minute I play for this club," he said.
The former Santos player will return to international action with Brazil when the Selecao visits Asia to face South Korea and Japan in friendly matches in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
