Xavi's dream: to lead Barça with Messi and Neymar

Former Barcelona captain Xavi Hernández admitted on Monday that he still needs "a little more experience" before fulfilling his dream of sitting on the Barcelona bench to lead the first team.

Xavi Hernandez has never hidden his goal of coaching Barcelona, and doing so with Messi and Neymar at his command would be the ultimate dream. He could have been Valverde's replacement, but he declined the offer.

"In January the time was not right, I had conversations with Abidal and Grau and an important proposal, but it was not the time. I need a little more experience, to train Barça is my dream, I would like one day, I have said that many times," said Xavi in a question and answer session at Instagram.

The Catalan, currently coach of Al-Sadd Catarí, shared that and other thoughts in a video interview with his former teammate Samuel Eto'o on the account of the World Cup Catar 2022, of which both are official ambassadors.

Looking ahead to his future as a coach, Xavi acknowledged that he would love to see it happen before Leo Messi retires, as being able to share a team again with him "would be a plus."

"Messi still has five or seven very good years left, he takes good care of himself and will be able to continue until he is 37, 38 or 39."

Xavi and Eto'o also had time to talk about current football issues and both agreed that Neymar's return would be the best thing for Barcelona.

"There's no doubt that he's among the top three or five in the world, he can make a difference. I have shared a team with him and he has a positive character, he would add a lot to Barça, he would be an extraordinary signing to make a difference," concluded Xavi.
