The fight for the professionalisation of women's football in Spain is baring fruit. The players are going to be considered as professionals. This is something they have been demanding for a long time.
Moreover, the president of the 'Consejo Superior de Deportes', Jose Manuel Franco, confirmed on the 'Hoy por hoy' programme on 'Cadena SER', that from next Monday (14th March) the players' wishes of professionalisation will be granted.
"The CSD is making a stern effort to dignify women's sport. Exemplary of this, is the fact that from 14th the directive comission of the CSD will approve professional status of the football league. It is the first step in doing the same for others sports. The process has been set in motion, the first step has to be made and this is what we are doing."
This decision will result in elections for a board to oversee the management of the new professional league. Moreover, the CSD has decided to grant 16 million euros to the affected clubs.
