Conor Mc Aleny who is on loan at the club from Everton managed to get the only goal in the game to send Wigan one point behind league leaders Burton on 74 points.
They faced a Rochdale side which played with 10 men for almost an hour after Ian Henderson was sent off.
League leaders have the one point advantage as well as a game in hand, and they travel to fifth placed Millwall on Monday evening.
It is an impressive run for Wigan.
