The latest Premier League season may have only just begun, but it is already shaping up to be a thrilling year of action. Several major transfers have brought exciting, fresh talent to the division, while newcomers like Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United look set to shake things up a little too.

However, while the battle between the 20 clubs in the league will attract plenty of attention, there are some other intriguing matters to consider as well.

Strong attacking talent

The race to finish as the Premier League’s top goalscorer is always a fascinating one and it will be particularly interesting to see how the competition unfolds this year. The division now boasts a strong array of attacking talent and there will be many stars wondering whether this could well be their year.

Last season, Leicester City’s talismanic striker Jamie Vardy won the race, scoring 23 goals to finish just one ahead of both Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton’s Danny Ings. The top five was completed by Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who won the award outright in 2017/18 and shared it with Aubameyang and Sadio Mane in 2018/19.

But what about this year? Who might have what it takes to be the Premier League’s hotshot in 2020/21?

Plenty to consider

There are certainly plenty of names to consider. Salah got off to the best possible start by scoring a hat-trick in Liverpool’s exciting opening day win against Leeds and he is unsurprisingly well-fancied by some bookmakers too. The Space Casino football betting site was offering odds of 7/2 on the Egyptian once again finishing top of the goalscoring charts at the time of writing. Vardy also bagged a couple of goals in a win against West Brom, while Aubameyang got off the mark early on as well.

However, is it possible that a new name might take the award in the coming season? For example, Raul Jimenez has proven his quality at Wolves in recent years and will be looking to build on the 17 he scored last season. In addition, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has caught the eye and, with the likes of James Rodriguez now supplying the ammunition, the Everton star could be in for a successful year.

Elsewhere, Harry Kane always tends to deliver for Tottenham Hotspur, while Manchester United’s attacking trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood may also be worth watching out for. Furthermore, one of Chelsea’s exciting newcomers like Timo Werner may have an impact as well.

A special season ahead

The Premier League always serves up a host of excitement and drama and it genuinely does seem like this season could be a special one.

Great goalscorers are always a joy to watch and the league now features a host of them, so it will be very interesting to see who ultimately comes out on top in the scoring charts. After all, whoever manages it may well have a major bearing on the success that their club ultimately enjoys.
