No one is aware of what the future holds when it comes to taking a decision. If Cristiano Ronaldo had not signed for Man Utd then, his success afterwards could have been very different. In fact, Parma almost prevented him moving to Manchester.
At that time, as the former Parma sporting director told 'TuttoMercato', the Italian club was big across Europe. "The team were getting old and the aim was to rejuvenate it, so we wanted to get the best youngsters."
The possiblity of signing the current Juventus striker, who had shone at Sporting Lisbon, was on the table for Parma. "We tried getting Cristiano Ronaldo and also Vidic," Tosi admitted.
"For the Portuguese, there was a difference of two million euros between what was offered and what they wanted. Sporting asked for 12 million euros and we offered 10. We were close. If we had offered 11, there would have definitely been a deal," he explained.
A decision which also could have completely changed Parma's future whose importance in Europe ended up declining. They are currently seventh in Serie A.
