"The shoemaker's son always goes barefoot", as the saying goes. It is a saying which goes perfectly with Laporte as, despite being a footballer, the sport is not necessarily his biggest passion off the pitch.
When speaking to 'The Guardian', Laporte made it clear that football is not his be-all-and-end-all. "I'm not addicted to it, I don't like watching all the games", he explained.
He also said something which surprised everyone: "When I play for City, I don't even know when the matches kick off. My family call and ask, 'What time are you playing?', and I say 'I don't know".
It is the same story in Qatar now, where he currently with Spain playing in the World Cup. '"I haven't even looked or made predictions for who we'll play if we get through. Do we play a side from Group F? I've got no idea...", he said.
Something that Laporte is sure of is that Spain deserve to be in the next round: "I haven't seen anyone play better. Individually, there are a lot of teams with great players, but on footballing terms, there are very few like us".
He ended by comparing Luis Enrique qith Pep Guardiola, his managers at 'La Roja' and City respectively. "They're very different, apart from having the same idea of keeping the ball. They both want the ball to manage the game, but with Pep, we try and throw the opponents off balance a bit more. We take more risks than here", he finished by saying.
