The manager had no problem in admitting that when he arrived on Merseyside, the Reds were not an exciting team, far from it. They were a team which were down and Klopp, with the help of his players, made the club great again.
“When I came in, I said that nobody likes this team, not even the team and that was the truth, but that’s completely different now. “It’s development, it’s time, patience that you give the boys," Klopp began.
In addition, he was happy to recall that many of the players who were there when he joined the club are still there: "There are still a few players left from when I arrived. Milner, Henderson, Lallana, Mignolet... people can see how they have developed," he continued. Klopp also made clear that many of his signings have had to develop at Liverpool rather than being ready made superstars.
"We had only two signings where we thought ‘Right, they absolutely have to be a slam dunk,'” he says. “That was Ali (Alison) and Virg (Van Dijk). “The others, they had to develop. They were still kind of projects, where we had to see if they could do it in the Premier League, if they could do it consistently, all that stuff. “Gini Wijnaldum and Andy Robertson, for example, they were relegated and they came to Liverpool. They were easy picks for us, but they were not obvious picks from the outside. We had to work with these players, all of them," he explained.
In addition, he also stated that Pep Guardiola called him after the Champions League final to congratulate him as well as describing the post match celebrations. "We didn't celebrate it all together in the dressing room and not because he did not want to... the thing is I was very closed. I heard the celebration from the press room. I was very tired, but being sat there made me happy for the boys."
