Las Palmas and the Catalan club are set to face one another at the Estadio Gran Canaria on Thursday night, bringing back unpleasant memories for current manager Jemez.
On 3rd March 2016, the Spanish boss was in charge of a Rayo Vallecano team who were deep in a relegation battle as they too had to play Barcelona, who were eight points clear over second-placed Atletico Madrid in La Liga - remarkably similar to how the table resembles this season.
As is the case this mid-week, Atletico played first, beating Real Sociedad 3-0 to pile pressure onto Luis Enrique's team going into their match with the league strugglers with Diego Simeone and his players doing the same to Ernesto Valverde, thrashing Leganes 4-0 on Wednesday thanks to four goals from star striker Antoine Griezmann.
However, maybe foreshadowing tonight's game, Barcelona were well up to the challenge two years ago, prevailing 5-1 winners. Goals from Ivan Rakitic, Lionel Messi (3) and Arda Turan made it a comfortable night for the leaders as their opposition went down to nine-men through red cards for Diego Llorente and Manuel Iturra and had to settle for a consolation goal by Manucho.
Moving to the present day and lots has changed since that fateful night as Jemez and Barcelona meet again on a Thursday. However, while 'Los Cules' will want another happy memory, Las Palmas manager will be out for revenge and won't make things quite as easy for the leaders this time around.
