Pires played under Wenger at Arsenal, the club he left after 22 years at the helm after the final game of last season.
"I saw Arsene recently at the leaders sports awards in London where he received a lifetime achievement award and he was very happy, content but you can see he is looking for a challenge," Pires said.
"He loves football so much I cant see him being out of the game for long. He said publicly he thinks in January he will work again so I expect some news soon."
The Premier League winner went on to discuss Paul Pogba, and his status at Manchester United.
"Obviously the environment is different and tactics are different," Pires added.
"France are in a very good place with a lot of confidence throughout the squad which creates a good platform to play well.
"Man Utd are struggling and not all players are playing at a top level so someone like Paul who can be so influential and plays such a central position is very easily highlighted if he is not 100% on top of his game.
"This is a transition phase for the club and is also highlighted but some of their competitors' amazing level of consistent performance."
