Liverpool are through to the Champions League quarter finals thanks to their first leg performance at the Giuseppe Meazza. At Anfield, they hit the woodwork three times but could not find the back of the net. However, Inter only scored once during the match, meaning the scousers went through on aggregate, 2-1.
Alexis Sanchez was sent off just seconds after Lautaro Martinez scored a fantastic goal. Ex Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke on 'BeIn Sports' about the expulsion. He was not impressed by Fabinho's reaction from Sanchez's second challenge.
The Chillean clearly touched the ball but on the follow through he caught Fabinho's ankle which could have done serious damage to the player in another circumstance. The referee reached to his pocket to show Sanchez a second yellow and send the player off. Sanchez was understandably in disbelief about the decision.
For Wenger, Fabinho's reaction was "borderline between cheating and being clever" but he did not dismiss the fact that "maybe he had pain, he was touched by Sanchez. You cannot say it was completely fake".
Nevertheless, the legendary manager backed Sanchez in saying: "He didn't want to hurt him, he played first the ball".
