The Real Madrid assembly began with the president's report. Florentino Perez assured that he continues dedicating a large part of his life to the club "with as much excitement" as the first day. He asked for respect for all the players who have achieved unprecedented success in the history of football, like three consecutive Champions Leagues and three straight Club World Cups.
"Last season was not the one we wanted nor wished for. You have to understand that this team came from winning everything in a historic cycle in which we won what seemed impossible. We lacked the neccessary intensity to keep up the standard we had set during that unforgettable era. It was a difficult season," he confessed.
The bad results in a campaign without major titles caused "criticism amongst ourselves to turn the situation around" and Florentino Perez was convinced that they will do so.
"We have to get back the hunger to win"
"We ourselves are demanding more triumphs. Our challenge is to carry on winning while things are getting more and more difficult. We have to be fair. We should value what this team has won in recent years, we have to remember that when we carry out our analysis. We must get back the hunger to win after an almost unrepeatable period," Perez pointed out.
The Real president pointed out that they had won 17 titles in nine seasons and that the squad and coaching staff deserved "respect and appreciation". He also said that Real were European champions for 1,099 days under Zinedine Zidane, leaders of the UEFA rankings for 1,940 days and Club World Cup winners for 1,001 days.
"We must be proud," Florentino pointed out. "It's time to get back that intensity and competitiveness. We have made an effort to improve a winning squad."
He also said Real Madrid 's squad has 1,180 million euros in market value and that they had signed six outfield players this summer," he highlighted.
