The Bundesliga is back, and it's taken the attention that the championships in Belarus, Nicaragua or Korea have received so far. The CEO of the DFL attended the 'Marca' newspaper on this subject.
He began by thanking the clubs for their work in making the return possible. "The work of the clubs and the organization were very good. The discipline of the players was also excellent. Everything went well by 95%, but there are always details to improve", said Seifert.
"I know it's hard not to hug after scoring a goal... But football professionals have kept their social distance, in general, and have worn masks. There was extreme discipline from everyone and loyalty to work hand in hand with politics. The medical work of laboratories and specialists also contributed," he said, referring to these details to improve.
He was also questioned about the injured, 14 between Bundesliga and Segunda. "We couldn't do a month-long pre-season abroad as usual," he explained.
"We planned individual and group training sessions and then the whole team a week before playing. The games were good and lively and we didn't see any unusual injuries. The number of mishaps was not very different from the past. We didn't see anything abnormal on the pitch," he added.
He said the Bundesliga came back for the clubs. "I'm responsible for 36 small and large companies that had to stop their activities and needed to produce again to survive, like any company in the world," he replied.
"My duty was to ensure that survival. We were talking about losses of at least 700 million euros. Our obligation, by ensuring the health of the players, was to come back," Seifert added.
Asked about the comparison with LaLiga, the CEO of the German championship boasted of his own virtues. "Here we have Lewandowski, Neuer; many young talents in Dortmund or Leverkusen; a growing team like RB Leipzig..." he said.
"The league has had the immense advantage, which nobody else has, of having the two best for a decade on the same teams. It's never happened before and it was a LaLiga success, but I'm very happy with how we've progressed in Germany," he said.
As for the future, he warned that next season will not be normal. As for Haaland, he defended the management of Borussia. "Any great player who leaves this league is, for us, a great loss. But I ask him, if he's so good, why is he in Dortmund now," he asked his interviewer.
"It's very easy now to love a player who's already in the world spotlight. The difficult thing was to sign him before and Borussia have done an exceptional job again," he replied, proudly, in conclusion.
