The sides met twice last year in 2018 World Cup qualifying and produced two controversial encounters.
In Dublin, Wales defender Neil Taylor was shown a straight red after breaking Republic captain Seamus Coleman's leg in two places.
Ireland won the return fixture 1-0 to end Wales' chances of qualification, in a physical encounter that saw Joe Allen leave the field with a concussion, and 6 yellow cards handed out, 5 of which were for Ireland.
Despite this, Williams said "I don't see it as a grudge. We're professionals and there's a lot of reasons why we want to win this game."
"There is an element of the past, but it's up to us to try and block that out and concentrate on the game. We haven't played at home for a while and we want to impress the new manager," Williams continued.
