The German opened the scoring for the visitors after just 11 minutes. He converted a fine Herrmann cross with a header to match, giving his side an early advantage which they would take into half time. Despite opportunities to extend their advantage, the scores stayed at 0-1, allowing the Bundesliga side to progress to the next round.

Gladbach get their league campaign underway against none other than Bayern Munich. They host the champions on August 13th.
