Rio Ferdinand is a man who knows what it takes to grace the very top of the game.
Widely regarded as one of the finest defenders in world football at the peak of his career, the former England captain boasts an enviable CV.
His career took him from West Ham to Queens Park Rangers, with notable spells at Leeds United and Manchester United sandwiched in between.
It is for his time at Old Trafford that he is best remembered, with 12 years spent on the books at the Theatre of Dreams.
During that time, he won six Premier League titles, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.
He also took his international cap tally to 81, having formed part of the Three Lions’ supposed ‘Golden Generation’.
When he speaks, it is advisable to listen – as some of United’s academy hopefuls have been finding out on the back of a recent 9-0 drubbing at the hands of derby rivals Manchester City.
“You have to understand that the badge, Man United, is not a joke,” says Ferdinand.
He certainly embraced what it means to be a Red Devils during his time working under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.
The 38-year-old also appears to have taken plenty of coaching pointers from his former boss, with it possible that a managerial career of his own could lie ahead for an iconic figure of the modern game.
