VIDEO: Real Madrid lifted the 18th Copa del Rey in 2011 against Barcelona

It was 11 years ago today that Real Madrid faced Barcelona at Mestalla in the final of the Copa del Rey in the 2010/2011 season. The 'Merengues' managed to lift the trophy after beating the Catalan team 0-1 to win their only title of that season. 

The match was very disputed, Real Madrid had most of the chances in the first half, with Pepe hitting the post. In the second half it was Barça who had more possession and chances to score, however neither team managed to score in the 90 minutes so the match went to extra time. Cristiano Ronaldo managed to tip the balance in favour of the Madrid team in the 103rd minute thanks to a great header from Di Maria's cross. 

After this match, Barcelona has won this title six more times in 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021. Real Madrid have only won it once more,curiously against Barcelona and at Mestalla in 2014. Barcelona is the team that has won this competition the most times (31), while Madrid is third (19) behind Athletic Club (23).
