Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about RB Trent Alexander-Arnold, following his definitive contribution to Liverpool´s 2-1 win against Aston Villa this Saturday.
Alexander-Arnold had recently come under the spotlight following a shock exclusion from Gareth Southgate's latest England squad for the first round of World Cup qualifiers. England are blessed with an abundance of right-banks, including Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker, Reece James and Aaron Wan-Bisaka amongst others. Questions have been raised about wether Trent should be in Southgate's final squad for the Euros, but Klopp believes he needs to be left alone to do what he does best - play football.
And that's exactly what he did this Saturday afternoon at Anfield. Liverpool had initially gone 0-1 done to a strike from Ollie Watkins, who many were surprised was included in Southgate's squad. Mo Salah pulled one back just before the hour mark, beyond which the game seemed destined for a stalemate. Enter Alexander-Arnold in the 91st minute with a fine strike to silence his critics. The result leaves Liverpool in 5th, 2 points off Chelsea, whilst Villa go down to 10th following Leeds' shock result against league leaders Man City.
