Athletic Bilbao faced Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final at La Cartuja in Sevilla on Sunday night.
The Basques played the better football, but fell behind in the 40th minute to an Antoine Griezmann goal. Oscar de Marcos levelled two minutes later though. Bilbao thought they had taken the lead early in second half, but Raul Garcia's goal was ruled out for offside by VAR. Griezmann got his second 13 minutes from time to put Barca in front. Athletic Bilbao did not give up though and Asier Villalibre forced extra time with a 90th minute equaliser.
In extra-time, Barca fell behind after Inaki Williams curled one into the top corner from the edge of the box which went in off the post. That was in the 93rd minute and despite late pressure from Koeman's men, Barca were unable to make it 3-3. Lionel Messi's red card for striking Villalibre off the ball in the 121st minute was a sign of the Catalans' frustration and Athletic Bilbao lifted the Super Cup.
