In the second leg, Gignac looked to mount the comeback for Tigres with a goal on 39 minutes. However, America showed their superiority in the second half, with a 68th minute strike from Arroyo and an 87th minute Martinez penalty enough to win the tie 4-1 on aggregate.
This season, America currently sit in second spot in the Liga MX, five points behind Cruz Azul. Tigres, meanwhile, are as low as 10th, although only three points separate themselves and Monterrey in fourth.
