Veteran Gundogan insists he has “several years” left at elite level

Ilkay Gundogan has made it clear that he intends to remain at Manchester City despite rumours linking him with a possible move to Galatasaray.
The 34-year-old German midfielder said after the 6-0 win over Al Ain in the Club World Cup that he is ‘very happy’ at the club and still has ‘several years’ left at the top level. Gundogan, who returned to City last summer after a spell at Barcelona, is under contract until 2026 after an automatic extension clause was activated.
Speaking recently, the player himself said: "I think so, yes. I have a one-year contract and I'm very happy here. I think everyone knows that. And I am committed to the competition, and I'm enjoying my football. I still believe that I have several years in me (of being able) to play on the highest level by taking good care of myself. I think I've proven that.
His performances continue to be remarkable, as evidenced by the two goals he scored against the Abu Dhabi outfit, one of them with some good fortune. Manchester City, however, have recently brought in players such as Tijjani Reijnders and Nico Gonzalez, increasing the competition in midfield.
Despite this, Gundogan believes his experience can be key to the squad and stresses the importance of having senior players in elite teams. ESPN sources indicate that Galatasaray are keeping a close eye on the player's situation and would be willing to make an offer if City facilitate his departure.
