The French centre-back Raphaël Varane spoke after the Real Madrid squad's first training sessions divided into two groups and assured that the players are "very much looking forward to competing" because they "haven't played football in a long time" and that they want "to win everything".
"We're very much looking forward to competing. Work is our way of being and we always want to compete. We haven't played football for a long time, so we're looking forward to winning everything, as we always have", Varane declared on 'Real Madrid TV'.
Madrid are 2nd in La Liga, two points from Barcelona who are top, with 11 matchdays left and would have to come back from a 2-1 first-leg defeat in the Champions League last 16 if the Champions League resumes in August after the break due to the coronavirus.
A return to competition for which Varane assures that they are working well: "We feel better every day. We are working hard on the physical side and we're getting back to a good feeling and improving on a tactical level. Above all, we are recovering sensations", he said.
"We have to work hard on a physical level to get a better feeling for the ball and gradually get back into the swing of things on a tactical level and in terms of mobility on the pitch so that we can be good and competitive when we can be together," he added.
