"I am going to continue here next season. I am sure we will experience strong emotions again," confessed the Frenchman for Real Madrid in an interview with 'Marca'. Only some of the main headlines have been released so far and the full interview will be published on Wednesday.
Raphael Varane wanted to emphasise this and was critical of himself and the team after the bad season they have had: "We have fought and we have put effort in. We cannot beat ourselves up at all, but it is true that we have been lacking that spark in the difficult moments. You have your good and bad phases. I have not been at my best, but I will get back to it."
Likewise, the French central defender stated that he wants the club to make changes in the summer: "We have to evolve and Zidane is clear about that. We have to rebuild and change things as is normal when you are going through a bad period."
Once the team were left with nothing to play for, Varane, still with the terrible season fresh in his mind, decided that he was going to leave Real Madrid. The youngster, who is full of ambition, thought it was best to move elsewhere.
After having won all possible trophies at club level and with a World Cup under his sleeve, the defender, who came from Lens at 18, thought his time at the Bernabeu had finished and that his future laid away from the Spanish capital.
However, Zinedine Zidane returned to Real Madrid and he sat down with his compatriot, highlighting his plans for the Frenchman to become a leader of the team because Sergio Ramos will be retiring in the next few years. After eight seasons at 26 years old, Varane has a promising future at Real Madrid.
