The 'Reds' came very close to winning the Champions League for the first time in 13 years last season, but lost out in agonising fashion to Real Madrid in the final of the tournament in Kiev.
The club have not won a trophy since the League Cup triumph in 2012, and with Jurgen Klopp spending big on the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho already this summer, some fans will expect that run of misfortune to end in 2018/19.
Since the German became manager of Liverpool in 2015, the club have been in the final of a competition on 3 occasions but have lost all of them. Despite this period of bad luck, van Dijk is confident heading in to the new season about their chances.
"We're going to work our socks off and do everything possible to make it happen this season. We were very close to silverware but obviously not close enough" the Dutch international told the club's website.
The former Southampton player reported back for the start of preseason treaining last week, given that his national side did not qualify to play at the World Cup in Russia, and wants to get back to full fitness to help his side challenge for the Premier League.
"I can improve in any aspect of the game. At the moment, it's getting back to full fitness, making sure I'm getting better and stronger than I was before. I will work every day and do everything possible and no doubt it will happen." he said.
Liverpool will complete a preaseason tour of the USA before starting their Premier League campaign against West Ham on 12th August.
