Valencia: New signings Michy Batshuayi, Denis Cheryshev and Kevin Gameiro are available but will likely start from the bench. Cristiano Piccini is in line to start on the right but Francis Coquelin is unavailable for the season opener.
Atletico: Lucas Hernandez is suspended so Felipe Luis could start at left back, despite rumours linking him with a move to PSG. Otherwise it's a fully fit squad for Diego Simeone. Thomas Lemar and Rodri both started the Super Cup victory over Real Madrid and could get their first taste of La Liga football with their new team.
Marcelino: We know that we have a great team and we are playing in front of our fans at home. Even though we know it will be a difficult game we are keen to get the win. We want to make the Mestalla a stadium where teams come thinking it is impossible to get a single point.
Simeone: We're going to face one of the most difficult teams in the league. They have improved a lot under Marcelino. Their playing style is similar to ours, with a few differences from their coach. They focus on structure, teamwork, working hard and speed. With Gameiro playing with Rodrigo they will be even better going forward. We are expecting the same as always when we play Valencia: a beautiful atmosphere, lots of fans and enthusiasm. It'll be a great game.
