Valencia put themselves forward as one of the stadia for the 2030 World Cup joint bid by Spain and Portugal.

Joan Ribó, the Valencia mayor, has made these comments to 'EFE' and he considers that the city stands out for having hosted top quality sporting events in recent years.

"We are prepared and we can make it excellent. In addition, hosting World Cup matches would be interesting for the city from a financial point of view because of the global repercussions of the tournament," the mayor added.

Therefore, Ribó offered the city as one of the stadia for the competition and recalled that for that time, both Levante's sports city and Valencia's new stadium "should be ready", with which the city will have "new sports facilities."

He also recalled that Valencia has the experience of hosting this tournament as they held matches in the 1982 World Cup.

Then the Spanish side played three games at the Mestalla. They won one, drew one and lost one

Spain made their debut against Honduras by drawing 1-1 and then they beat Yugoslavia 2-1. Their third and final game saw them lose 0-1 to Northern Ireland thanks to a goal by Gerry Armstrong, who moved to Real Mallorca one year later.
