The referee, Mario Melero Lopez, took six minutes to book Dani Parejo. The player brought down an opponent, but he played the ball first.
That first yellow, therefore was slightly debatable. It could have just been a foul.
That was Dani Parejo's fifth yellow card. Therefore, he was going to miss the match against Barcelona anyway.
But the referee sent the Valencia captain off. He got his second yellow in the 51st minute.
Parejo slightly pulled back a Mallorca man. It certainly did not look like a yellow card offence.
But the referee thought otherwise and Parejo's match ended early. He will miss the Barca match and he will, without doubt, be an important loss for Valencia.
