United boss Jose Mourinho showed his faith in the youngster by handing him his full debut against the Portuguese side and the 20-year-old responded with a composed performance in the 'Red Devils' engine room.
Speaking to 'BT Sport' after the game, McTominay descirbed the moment as a 'dream come true' before saying that he now felt as though he had completed his journey though the United academy.
'As a young boy growing up you dream of playing in the Champions League with United,' he explained.
'All the years through the academy watching the first team players and nights like these are brilliant and I'm made up.'
Meanwhile, United legend Paul Scholes praised the youngster's performance, saying that the academy product had proved that he could step into the first team when needed.
'McTominay did well. He was very confident, passed the ball well, whatever he did he was comfortable,' explained the former United and England midfielder.
'If there's ever a problem with the first team he's more than capable of stepping in. He should be very proud of his performance tonight.'
