With captain Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season to join up with the coaching staff and Marouane Fellaini searching for another club, United need reinforcements to provide healthy competition for Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba. But who are the 'Red Devils' potentially after?
Jean Michael Seri (Nice)
The £35million-rated Ivory Coast international is an excellent passer of the ball and plays at a high tempo, but his 5ft 6ins stature could get lost in the physicality of the Premier League.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio)
The powerful Serbian midfielder turned 23 on Tuesday and could receive a once-in-a-lifetime present if United bring him to Old Trafford in the summer. They'll face stiff competition from other European heavyweights Chelsea, Juventus and Real Madrid though, who are all interested in Savic given his outstanding performances in Serie A this season.
Jorginho (Napoli)
The 26-year-old has been instrumental to the Serie A outfit's stylish football this campaign, balancing his defensive duties of protecting the back four perfectly whilst also looking to spring attacks. However, rivals Liverpool are also keen as they search for a replacement for Emre Can.
Toni Kroos (Real Madrid)
The German nearly joined United when David Moyes was at the helm but the move fell through, so there is potential. Although, given Kroos' important performances for Madrid this season, it will be difficult to convince Florentino Perez to sell as Mateo Kovacic and Marcos Llorente are still too young to replace him.
Victor Wanyama (Tottenham)
Not a huge talent in comparison to some of the other names on the list, but since he isn't a regular feature in the Spurs' first-team due to injuries, Wanyama could be a potential back-up if their other targets were to stall.
Willian (Chelsea)
The Brazilian is one of the most underrated midfielders in Europe and has proven time again that he can perform on the big stage, scoring against Barcelona in the 'Blues' Champions League first leg and even against United on Sunday. However, it will take a premium price to convince Chelsea to sell one of their best players to a major rival.
