Frenkie de Jong is one of Xavi's key players. However, Barcelona's financial situation means that they have to listen to offers even for their important players.
Barça have already set a starting price for Frenkie de Jong. Whoever wants him will have to pay at least 80 million euros.
Among those interested in De Jong are United and City. The Red Devils, however, do not intend to go all out for the Dutchman. The 'Daily Mirror' makes it clear that they refuse to put on the table the 80 or 82 million that Barça are demanding to let him leave.
The British newspaper reports that United have already told Barça that they are not going to spend that amount of money on De Jong. It is true that Erik Ten Hag wants to bring back his former Ajax player, but the Englsih board will not do anything crazy.
In fact, United has given the new manager a limited budget. He will have around 115 million to invest in transfers. If he spends 80 kilos on De Jong, that would leave him with only 35 million for other moves, and the club's idea is to bring in a large number of players this summer (up to ten).
The other option for De Jong is Manchester City. According to the latest reports, the Dutchman would be keen to join Pep Guardiola's team. He would be willing to forgive Barça seven million euros in wages to make the deal go through.
