In another installment of happenings in football which seemed impossible but were bound to happen one day, Hull vs Birmingham was delayed because the goal was too big. The clubs confirmed shortly before the game that the goal was around five centimetres larger than what it should have been, which delayed the match by 20 minutes.
The referees realised in their pre-match checks, when they went up to the goals at either side of the pitch to check them out. This is normally done by the linesman, who check their sides of the pitch for any imperfection or object.
Once these checks were complete and it was clear there was something wrong, it was too late to get a new goal, so workers with a chainsaw were called in to reduce the size by five centimetres. Of course, videos of the event immediately went viral.
In any event, they ended up sorting out the problem and the match started 20 minutes late. Birmingham started the game better as they found themselves ahead after a quarter of an hour thanks to a Deeney penalty which made things difficult for Hull.
This is not the first time this has happened, as something similar occured when Wigan hosted Cardiff, and the match went ahead despite the two goals being different sizes.
