Umtiti has support of Setien and will stay at Barca
Samuel Umtiti has found a perfect ally in Quique Setien. The French defender, plagued by injury since 2018, will apparently stay at Barcelona because of the coach.
'Marca' says that the World Cup winner with France will 100% stay at Barcelona next season. Things have changed for him at the club since Setien took over.
Since Setien replaced Valverde as Barcelona coach, Umtiti has been preferred to compatriot Clement Lenglet in the starting XI. That was the first step towards getting him to stay at the club.
Barcelona tried to include Umtiti in current transfer negotiations. In fact, Inter Milan have apparently approved his move to the club as part of a deal which would see Lautaro Martinez sign for Barcelona.
However, the problem for the club is that not only the French footballer does not want to leave, but also the fact that Quique Setien holds him in high regard. He counts on him for next season.
Umtiti, at the moment, is out injured again. The defender got an injury to the soleus muscle in his right leg and he has yet to rejoin the rest of his teammates.
