The match was interrupted on two occasions by the referee, first because firecrackers were thrown and flares were set off and then after racist abuse from the crowd. The Swede, Alexsander Isak, who plays for Real Sociedad, was the victim of racist abuse from the home crowd when he came on in the second half.
The referee then threatened to suspend the game and the PA system at the Arena Nacional in Bucharest called for an end to the racism. The match then continued with further incidents and Sweden won 0-2.
After the final whistle, the Swedish players hugged Isak and celebrated the win. They finished second behind Spain for the Euros.
On 15th October, Romania played the qualifying game against Norway behind closed doors. Only youngsters were allowed to attend because of xenophobic chanting from the Romanians against Hungarians in the fixture versus Spain.
The investigation confirmed by UEFA is added to the investigation for illegal banners and chants, the lighting of flares and throwing of objects which will be dealt with by the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary committee on 12th December.
