Police are investigating an altercation in the tunnel between Fleetwood's Joey Barton and Barnsley's Daniel Stendel after today's clash which ended 4-2.

In a tweet that has since been deleted, Barnsley striker Cauley Woodrow said that Joey Barton, the Fleetwood manager, had an altercation with Daniel Stendel, his Barnsley counterpart, after the game which ended 4-2 which saw the fleetwood manager lose 4-2.

The striker, who scored one of the goals, has claimed that Barton had left Stendel with "blood pouring from his face".

Although no information has been given by Barton or Fleetwood, both coaches skipped their post match press obligations, and a South Yorkshire police spokesman has confirmed that there was an incident: "we are aware of something that has taken place in the tunnel after the game and we are investigating".

Since, Barnsley has published a statement: “The club can confirm there was an alleged incident in the tunnel area that took place following the conclusion of today’s match, which South Yorkshire police are currently investigating. The club is assisting the police with its enquiries and, as a result, we are not in a position to make any further comment at this time.”

News agency Sky Sports News also have allegedly showed footage of Barton trying to drive off from Oakwell but being flagged down by police.
