Despite UEFA announcing earlier on Saturday that there would be a minute's silence in the memory of José Antonio Reyes, who died in a car accident this morning, the footballers paid tribute to the ex-Spain international in a different way.
The strict rules wouldn't allow a minute's silence as such, so the stadium paid tribute in a different manner as they applauded whilst pictures of Reyes appeared on the big screens around the stadium.
Amongst all the applause, the cameras focused on Fernando Llorente and Alberto Moreno, who were both teammates of Reyes and looked visibly moved in what was no doubt an emotional moment.
Reyes was the only player to win the Europa League five times, and he was given a worthy tribute at the Wanda before the game started.
