Tottenham suffered last gasp heartbreak as Sporting struck twice to take the points in Lisbon. The match looked to be heading for a goalless draw until Paulinho headed home a corner in the 90th minute. Then, with practically the last kick of the game, Arthur Gomes nutmegged Emerson and Lloris to make it two. The victory puts Sporting clear at the top of the group with six points and leaves Conte with work to do.
The first 25 minutes were very quiet as Tottenham had more of the possession while Sporting decided to play on the counter and actually looked more dangerous. Pedro Goncalves had the first chance after seven minutes after being played the ball by Marcus Edwards, but his shot along the ground was tipped around the post by Lloris.
Then, Tottenham picked up and Richarlison looked particularly sharp. He headed a ball towards goal into the ground and Adan had to make the save. Then, 10 minutes later, he had the ball in the net, but he was offside. However, Tottenham nearly fell behind right on half-time. Edwards went on a terrific run and beat several defenders and then played a lovely one-two with Trincao before being denied by a fine Lloris save. It would have been a superb goal had it gone in, but 0-0 was very fair going into half-time.

The second period saw Tottenham up their game and dominate the opening 15 minutes. Emerson had two clear opportunities to put Conte's side ahead. The first was when Perisic combined with Kane and Emerson's header from Kane's centre was saved by the goalie while the other saw the Brazilian get on the end of Kane's free-kick and Adan made a fine stop with his legs.
Kane was also denied by Adan before the hour mark, but the action then calmed down. Sporting hardly threatened the Tottenham goal in the second half and it looked set to end goalless. Kulusevski's entrance 20 minutes from time gave Tottenham a cutting edge and he created a chance for Richarlison, but the Brazilian wasted it and Tottenham ended up leaving the Portuguese capital empty handed.
Pedro Porro forced a wonderful save out of Hugo Lloris in the 90th minute and, from the resulting corner, Paulinho headed into the far corner to send the home fans ecstatic. Then, Arthur Gomes was brought on as part of a double substitution and, within seconds, he showed his quality. He ran into the Spurs box and nutmegged Emerson before slotting the ball between the legs of the goalkeeper to round off a special night for Ruben Amorim's men.
