Torreira is set to confirm a move to the 'Gunners' now that his focus is no longer on the World Cup. The Uruguayan midfielder had been impressing with 'La Celeste' in Russia, until they were eliminated by France on Friday, in a 0-2 loss.
According to 'Sportsmail', a fee was close to being agreed between Arsenal and Sampdoria a week ago, rumoured to be in the region of £25m.
Business always moves slowly when the World Cup is on, but now that Uruguay are on their way home, Torreira will confirm the move in the near future, according the 'Daily Mail'.
When asked if a potential move was slowed by his international campaign, the midfielder confirmed the notion.
"Yes, we could have done things differently, but I did not want to think about other things," he said, as reported by the aforementioned outlet. "The World Cup is important and being part of this squad meant a lot to me. But now I have more time my future will be very clear."
"The important thing is that I'm happy to have been part of this squad and this World Cup, so I thank all the people who accompanied us."
He emphasised that he was leaving Russia content, despite Uruguay's quarter-final loss. "Being part of this squad in this World Cup, the truth that it was something magnificent," he explained.
"We go home with our heads held high because we knew how to leave everything until the end."
