To date, the Cluw World Cup has been contested 14 times, and has born witness to global icons and revelations alike throughout those years. In the midst of the current edition of the tournament, we take a look at the greatest goalscorers to have battled for the trophy.
With three goals; Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Flávio Amado (Al-Ahly), Ronaldinho (Barcelona and Atletico Mineiro), Romario (Vasco da Gama), Gareth Bale(Real Madrid), Hisato Sato (Sanfrecce Hiroshima), Mao Molina (Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma), Washington Stecanela(Urawa Reddo Daiyamonzu), Nicolas Anelka (Real Madrid) and Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).
Higher up, with four goals to their name: Denílson Martins (Pohang Steelers) and Mohamed Aboutrika (Al-Ahly). Then, with five strikes; César Delgado (Rayados de Monterrey), Lionel Messi (Barcelona) and Luis Suárez(Barcelona).
Finally, at the very top, out on his own, sits Cristiano Ronaldo, with seven goals. The Portuguese could even have made an improvement on that figure this year, but his departure from Real Madrid ruled him out of this year's edition of the competition. Alas, he will have to try to return with new club Juventus next year.
