The player was not sent off in the match after the decision went to VAR and it was ruled that the stamp was not intentional and therefore no punishment would be taken.
Neymar received a lot of criticism for how he dealt with the situation, writhing around in pain and seemingly trying to get the opponent sent off through his theatrics.
Following the game, which saw Mexico lose 2-0 and be knocked out of the World Cup, the Porto defender received a huge amount of abuse online from Neymar's fans, and there have apparently even been threats made against his family.
Layun took to social media to condemn the abuse, saying on his Instagram account to:
"If anyone has a problem with what happened during the game (even after having referred to the VAR, the referee said to me that he could see that the stamp wasn't intentional, otherwise he would have shown me a red card).
"I haven't got any problem if you want to send messages to my account, even ones in which you threaten me, I understand that this is all part of the game. But please treat my family with respect, I won't accept anything less. Thank you."
Neymar went some way to spark the abuse, saying after the game that he felt the stamp was intented and that it should not be accepted in the game. He is yet to comment any further on the abuse given to Layun.
