The 24-year-old Brazilian chose to remain at the Ligue 1 outfit after a host of Monaco players left in August. The likes of Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe or Tiemoue Bakayoko departed the Principality club.
It has affected the form of the Ligue 1 title holders this season, with Jardim's side sitting nine points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain. To rub salt in the wound, Fabinho has confirmed he will not continue at the club next season.
"This will be my final season at Monaco, nothing has been signed but they gave me their word," the midfielder said. "I don't think I will have the chance of leaving in January. I haven't asked to leave [in January] and I am calm at Monaco. Then I would not be able to play in the Champions League with another team."
Atletico Madrid is another possible destination, which the player has not ruled out: "Yes, it's a possibility, but nobody at Atletico Madrid has contacted me or my agent," he added. "Today I am at Monaco. We are talking about these options for the summer, bu many things can still happen and I have to show my level to play in such teams."
