The 2019-20 Champions League which had a final eight format due to COVID-19 now has two teams left. The games were one legged ties from the quarter-final phase, but two of the favourites have reached the final.
The first team to book their place were PSG, who will be in the final for the first time in their history. The French side have not had an easy path to the final and their dream is to win the Champions League. They have spent more than 1.3 billion euros on it.
In the last 16, they had to come from behind to overcome a first leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund. They had to do the same versus Atalanta in the quarter-finals over one leg when Marquinhos and Choupo-Moting scored late on while their semi-final win over RB Leipzig was very comfortable.
This Wednesday, Bayern confirmed their place in the final. The Germans are more used to these types of matches, but a couple of slip-ups in the Bundesliga caused a few concerns. However, the Germans have been unstoppable in the Champions League and they won all their group stage matches.
They won all their knockout matches easily. They beat Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate in the last 16 over two leg.
Then, they inflicted a historic 8-2 defeat on Barcelona, a match which saw Quique Setien lose his job as Barca coach. Finally, against Lyon in the semis, they suffered in the opening 20 minutes, but once Gnabry opened the scoring, it was plain sailing. Flick's men won 3-0.
