"There was a miscommunication with Eric on that play, I feel bad for him"

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen said Thursday that his team “gave their all” with 10 players, after Eric Garcia was sent off against Monaco in the 10th minute, but regretted the final defeat (2-1) on the first day of the Champions League.

“We didn't understand each other well in this situation. I feel bad for him, because the situation hurt him. We had to play 80 minutes with one man down. It's something that shouldn't have happened to us. It's a football thing. The defeat hurts, because we gave our best with 10 players,” said the German.

Speaking to 'Movistar Liga de Campeones' from the pitch of the Louis II Stadium in Monaco, Ter Stegen assured that Barcelona tried to “get at least a point” in the second half, and felt that Monaco's second goal was “undeserved at the time”, because it came “without much play”, on a long ball.

“After the break we knew they were going to press more because they had one more player than us. We wanted to put the spaces together well and to a certain extent it worked quite well for us,” said the 'Cule' goalkeeper, who concluded that Barcelona will try to "win the next game at home" in the Champions League.
