The venue for the 2021 Club WC to be decided on Thursday

The FIFA Council will decided this Thursday the venue for the 2021 Club World Cup with 24 teams in a meeting in Shanghai. The calendar for countries which want to host the 2030 World Cup will also be confirmed. Spain are planning to bid for it with Portugal.

The new Club World Cup was approved last March and it will be played once every four years. The first edition will be in June-July 2021. FIFA are looking to host the first tournament in China, according to 'New York Times'. 

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will participate in the tournament representing UEFA, the confederation most critical of this competition. The participants will be the Champions League and Europa League winners for the four seasons between 2018 and 2021. 

In addition, FIFA will study the time frame and the calendar for bidding for the 2030 World Cup. Co-hosts are being considered after the news USA, Mexico and Canada are organising the 2026 edition

Spain and Portugal have made their first contact as possible hosts. The FIFA Congress while decide who hosts it. Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay have put in a bid as have Ecuador, Colombia and Peru

The 2023 Women's World Cup is also on the agenda. That edition will see 32 teams play instead of the 24 we saw in France. There will also be a report on preparations for Qatar 2022 which will take place from 21st November to 18th December that year with 32 teams not 48.

The council will also study other business like the future of women's and youth competitions at the meeting.
