Alisson Becker ended the season with 22 clean sheets in 38 games, with the Brazilian not absent for a single minute of Liverpool's campaign. In the end Alisson ended up conceding just 21 goals.
This means that Liverpool conceded solely 21 goals in their 38 matches of the season. A record made even more astonishing by the fact that only one match was lost all season.
Ederson had a very similar season with City. He also played every game, conceding just 22 goals, one more than his compatriot, and one less clean sheet than his compatriot. Ederson ended the season with 20 clean sheets.
Both came into the final match of the season with 20 clean sheets, but with Glenn Murray scoring for Brighton against City and Wolves not scoring against Liverpool. Alisson stole the prize on the final day.
It has been a spectacular race for the golden glove this season, but despite all this, neither Ederson or Alisson are the best goalkeepers in the history of the Premier League.
Peter Schmeichel and Pepe Reina also finished the season with 20 clean sheets. The Dane with Manchester United in the 1994-95 season, whilst the Spaniard had his superb season in 2005-06.
Like Alisson, neither of them won the Premier League in their superb year, with the Red Devils falling to Blackburn Rovers by a point, and Liverpool were third, 9 points behind Champions Chelsea.
With 21 cleansheets in the 2008-09 season was Edwin Van der Sar. The Dutch legend did win the Premier League with Manchester United, but he got his 21 clean sheets in just 33 matches played (38 were played, but Van der Sar was not involved in all of them).
However, the absolute record goes to Petr Cech. The Czezh keeper kept 24 clean sheets in his first season at Chelsea in the 2004/05 season, conceding just 13 goals in the 35 games he played in.
Chelsea were proclaimed Champions of England with relative ease. Winning the lead with an 8 point lead, and finishing with a +57 goal difference. It was the first Premier League victory for José Mourinho, and nobody has beaten the record in 14 years.
