The top 10 greatest ever Premier League hat-tricks

With the Premier League still halted, we provide you with a list of the top ten greatest ever hat-tricks in the English top flight, to keep you going.

10. Fabrizio Ravanelli - August 17, 1996

Scoring on your debut is the dream. Scoring three goals is another thing entirely. Ravanelli, who had signed for Middlesborough in the summer of 1996, enjoyed a dream start to his time with Boro, bagging thrice on the opening day of the season, before wheeling off to celebrate with his shirt over his head. The Italian would be further up this list if it weren't for the fact that the three goals weren't exactly worldies.

9. Matt Le Tissier - April 9, 1994

Not only was Le Tissier's hat-trick against Norwich his second triple of the season for Southampton, he also managed to grab all three goals within the space of 15 minutes, scoring in minutes 58, 63 and 72. The goals came in an extraordinary 4-5 win, which would end up helping the Saints avoid relegation.

8. Alan Shearer - February 2, 1997

The 1996/7 season was Alan Shearer's first in the black and white of Newcastle, having signed for £15m in the summer. The now-legendary striker scored a massive late hat-trick to salvage a 4-3 win for the Magpies against Leicester, scoring on 77', 83' and 90' to rescue three points. Incredibly, after the game he said that he felt he had a poor game.

7. Robin van Persie - April 22, 2013

It was a day of both personal victory and team victory for Robin Van Persie when Manchester United hosted Aston Villa in 2013. In Alex Ferguson's final season as United manager, the Red Devils needed a win to secure themselves a parting league title for Fergie, and Van Persie came up with the goods. Three first half goals, including a thumping volley, came without any reply from Villa, and United were crowned champions of England once more.

6. Dennis Bergkamp - August 27, 1997

For many, Bergkamp's hat-trick against Leicester is unparalleled in the Premier League when it comes to technique. A looping shot from outside the box, a dinked finish and a sublime bit of control for the finisher made up a wonderful treble, but in the end it was only enough to seal a draw for the Gunners.

5. Luis Suarez - December 4, 2013

Luis Suarez to Norwich is like garlic to a vampire, or salt to a slug. The Uruguayan forward scored three hat-tricks against the Canaries in his time at Liverpool, the last of which ended up as four-goal haul. This game came in 2013, as Suarez thumped a long range volley in, before turning in from a corner, smashing in a wonderful finish from the edge of the area, and curling a pinpoint free-kick in from 35 yards. Norwich must have had a party when Barcelona splashed out to bring the forward to the Camp Nou.

4. Robbie Fowler - August 28, 1994

Fowler's performance against Arsenal at Anfield can only be described as a demolition job. The Liverpool striker smashed in three goals in four minutes, putting Arsenal to the sword midway through the first half. The hat-trick set the record for the quickest treble in Premier League history.

3. Sadio Mane - May 16, 2015

Fowler's record stood for 21 years, until Sadio Mane came along. The Senegal international, who now plays for Liverpool, was with Southampton at the time, and he crushed Aston Villa in a 6-1 win. Unbelievably, the Saints forward managed the incredible feat of scoring three goals in two minutes and 56 seconds.

2. Nwankwo Kanu - October 23, 1999

Who doesn't love a hat-trick against your biggest rivals? Kanu delighted Arsenal fans with a three-goal haul against Chelsea in the 1999/2000 season.

1. Dimitar Berbatov - September 19, 2010

Another hat-trick in a derby, but this from Berbatov had even more star-quality. The mercenary striker's triple included an overhead kick, a late winner, and the first hat-trick in the Liverpool-United derby in 64 years. The stuff of legend.
