Barcelona signed Philippe Coutinho in January 2018 after months and months of confusion. The saga in summer 2017 went on for ever and the Brazilian ended up handing in a transfer request to Liverpool to leave Barca halfway through the season.
A year and a half later, the Brazilian is on loan at Bayern Munich and speculation is constantly linking him with a return to Liverpool.
However, 'Mirror' published this Friday that Jurgen Klopp's desire could be impossible. Why? These are the three reasons which the British paper says:
1. The Liverpool board refused
Last summer, when Barca were looking for a departure of Coutinho, Klopp sat down with the sporting director of the club Michael Edwards to propose the signing of the Brazilian, but talks did not last long.
The Catalans asked for eight million euros for his loan spell and for Liverpool to take full responsilibility for his salary. This left to Liverpool ending negotiations.
Given thay Bayern will not activate Coutinho's buyout clause, Barca could put him back out on the market to try and get some money back for the player, but the 'Reds' did not seem willing to pay much for him.
2. A bargaining chip for Neymar?
'Sport' and 'AS' say that Bartomeu is interesting in signing Neymar again and Philippe Coutinho could be linked to that.
It is obvious that the Parisians will not make things easy. Coutinho, Neymar's friend, could be used as a bargaining chip to help sign the player.
3. Coutinho wants to triumph at Barca
The other point of view is that of the player. As the British media outlet says, Coutinho dreamt about triumphing at Barca, something which he could not achieve in his brief spell at Barcelona.
Once he returns to the Camp Nou next summer, it remains to be soon what are Quique Setien's plans and if the player manages to convince the coach to keep him at Barcelona.
