'Mundo Deportivo' and 'Catalunya Radio' had already announced that Jordi Mestre had presented his resignation after a meeting among various board members this Wednesday. The reasons given were "internal matters" as well as disagreement over the club's transfer policy.
Mestre is one of Josep Maria Bartomeu's closest men and his departure provokes an institutional crisis at the club. The now ex-vicepresident backs Pep Segura, who is in charge of the footballing department and his position is now weaker after Mestre's resignation.
Speculation has also come to the fore due to the fact there is talk over Neymar returning to Barcelona. It would be a difficult transfer to carry out in every aspect.
Mestre was named on Tuesday the president of Gremio de Hoteles in Barcelona, an association which represents the hotel sector. Mestre arrived at Barca in 2010 and had been occupying the role of sporting vice president since 2014.
