The European Superleague takes a new hit. The Spanish government has positioned against the project, which is led by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus.
According to 'Cadena COPE' the Spanish State Legal Council handed to the Court of Justice of the European Union written allegations which defended UEFA's interests against the ESL.
This way the Spanish State draws the line against the ambitious project started by 12 of the biggest clubs in Europe.
It's not the first time that the Spanish government shows its opposition to the project led by Real Madrid's president, Florentino Perez. When the European Superleague was first announced, Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribes, the Spanish minister of sport expressed his disapproval.
"I am worried about the sanctions that the UEFA could use to punish the players, as it could make some not being able to play for the Spanish national team. The whole sports structure would be broken, the competitive football based on sporting merit would be gone", said then.
According to 'Cadena COPE' the Spanish government believes in sporting merit to play in the European competitions.
